Our wet verges are crumbling away and need replacing with a dry verge. The building is three storeys with a dormer front and rear and a porch to the rear. Except for the porch, all the other verges are at significant height and would require scaffolding. The roof is pitched and covered in local slate. I’d be pleased if you could advise on your availability to assist with this work and the likely cost. Many thanks. Steve Banks

Nestled just north of Derwentwater and 4 miles (6.4 km) from Bassenthwaite Lake, Keswick offers breathtaking landscapes that have attracted visitors for centuries. The town had a population of 5,243 at the 2011 census. Keswick’s heritage dates back to the 13th century when Edward I approved its trading rights. With a continuous 700-year tradition, Keswick has evolved into a thriving holiday centre, with tourism at the heart of its economy for more than 150 years. The town is home to landmarks such as the Moot Hall, the Theatre by the Lake, the historic Alhambra cinema, and the Keswick Museum and Art Gallery, located in Fitz Park. Annual events, including the Keswick Convention, draw visitors from across the globe, while Keswick’s links to the Lake Poets—Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Robert Southey, and William Wordsworth—has further brought global recognition to the town. Roofing in Keswick Keswick’s range of buildings requires expert roofing care. Period homes with traditional slate and clay-tiled roofs may require attention for moss buildup, weathered slates, or leaking gutters, caused by the region’s weather patterns. Modern materials, such as GRP fibreglass and EPDM rubber, are ideal for flat roofs and new builds, while traditional slate remains a staple for preserving Keswick’s historic charm. Keswick is served by trusted suppliers, stocking high-quality products for repairs and installations. Local roofers are often accredited by organisations like the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) and TrustMark, guaranteeing high standards.
