Corrugated metal and zinc roofs are known for their lightweight design, making them a great choice for homes, agricultural buildings, and commercial properties in the UK. However, over time, these roofs are prone to:
– Deterioration of metal coatings
– Unsecured screws or fasteners
– Improper sealing
– Distorted panels
– Fading or discolouration
If problems occur, routine maintenance can avoid costly replacements.
Advantages of these roof types:
– Corrugated metal – Long-lasting, with a high strength-to-weight ratio
– Zinc roofing – Highly durable, offering self-healing properties
Widely used styles feature:
– Galvanized metal – Rust-resistant with a protective zinc coating
– Pre-painted sheets – Aesthetic and perfect for custom designs
– Standing seam zinc – Modern, durable against harsh weather
Did you know? zinc roofs are known to last for generations with regular inspections. Corrugated metal, while cost-effective, also provides excellent longevity.
Why schedule an inspection? Regular roof inspections can detect:

I have close cell insulation in my pitched roof , that is covered with welsh slates, in a conservation area. If the insulation is removed then a large proportion of the slates will break—-estimated 80%, since the close cell insulation is currently applied directly to the underside of the slates. so these will have to be replaced with reclaimed welsh slate, since this isa conservation area. Access is tricky as the house borders a public footpath and much of the roof is only accessible via a roof ladder. I do not need quotes for removing the foam, just re-roofing, which may involve new roof timbers too.

Ruardean is a rural community in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England, situated on a scenic hilltop with sights west towards the hills of South Wales. Previously a hub for iron ore smelting, forges, and coal mining, remnants now remain of its rich history.
The Norman Ruardyn Castle, currently a mound of earth, previously oversaw the shortest route from Gloucester Castle to the Welsh Marches and the Wye Valley. Today, Ruardean is part of the Forest of Dean district, known for its natural beauty, and is surrounded by charming cottages and modern residences.
Properties in the area typically have traditional roofing styles, including pitched roofs with slate tiles, clay tiles, and even corrugated materials on older rural buildings. The climate of the Forest of Dean, often wet and windy, ensures that roofs need to be regularly inspected to prevent leaks.
Frequent problems faced by homeowners in Ruardean feature damaged tiles, moss growth, and deterioration due to age. Regular inspections can help prevent costly repairs.
Residents in the village, vetted professionals offer comprehensive roofing solutions, from slate and tile repairs, gutter cleaning, and chimney work to modern installations.
To find a roofer, seek contractors certified through trusted organisations like the NFRC or CORC, to secure high-quality workmanship.
