we are renovating a building with two different aged roofs, both have issues with leaks. one is more modern with felt and leading. there appears to be an issue with some of the leading and around a chimney. the other is older without felt but with plaster under the tiles. some of the tiles have slipped or are missing which has caused some water damage underneath.

Porthmadog, often referred to by residents as “Port,” is a charming Welsh coastal town in the area of Gwynedd. Formerly part of Caernarfonshire, it has officially been spelled as Porthmadog since 1974. Located 5 miles (8 km) east of Criccieth, 11 miles (18 km) south-west of Blaenau Ffestiniog, and 20 miles (32 km) south of Caernarfon, it provides easy access to Snowdonia National Park. The town had a population of 4,185 as of the 2011 census. Porthmadog developed in the 19th century as a port for exporting slate, which was transported from nearby quarries to England and beyond. With the decline of the slate industry, the town evolved into a hub for shopping and a favourite spot for visitors. Porthmadog is further known as the terminus of the Ffestiniog Railway, a major draw for visitors. It encompasses adjacent areas of Borth-y-Gest, Morfa Bychan, and Tremadog. Housing in Porthmadog includes traditional stone-built cottages, modern family houses, as well as coastal residences suited to the local climate. Roofing in Porthmadog is typically adapted to the area’s coastal exposure, with natural slate being widely used for its long-lasting qualities. Innovative flat roof systems are increasingly used for modern builds and extensions. The weather in Porthmadog brings challenges for roofing, with frequent rain, strong winds, and salt air. Typical problems include cracked or slipped tiles, water ingress, and drainage issues. Skilled roofers are experienced at addressing these concerns, providing tailored solutions using materials from trusted manufacturers like Marley, Redland, and Cupa Pizarras. Local contractors are accredited by respected trade bodies like the NFRC and TrustMark, ensuring standards of excellence and compliance with regulations. Whether you’re restoring a historic slate roof, upgrading insulation for energy efficiency, or installing a flat roof for a new extension, Porthmadog’s roofing professionals are here to help. Use our form today to connect with vetted roofers and protect your home with expert care.
