Good afternoon

My name is Wesley Thompson. I stay at 33E Friar Street, Perth.

I am looking for a quote and a note of your availability.

I stay in a top floor flat. Building has a ground floor, 1st floor and a 2nd floor (which is where my flat is situated). I have attached a photo for your reference. My flat is circled in RED.

My fireplace is covered by a wooden façade and vented with a small plastic vent.

I have been hearing bird noises coming from the vents every so often for the last several weeks. However last week, a birds foot poked through the vent in the fireplace so I opened the plastic vent to take a look inside the fireplace. At first I couldn’t see the bird(s) but after a while one black bird dropped down. I can’t be sure if this bird simply fell down the chimney or if the birds are nesting on top of the chimney itself. The vent is small and would not permit me to put my hand inside to try and grab the bird. I tried to deal with the situation by removing the vent and putting a stick in to ‘persuade’ the bird to leave, which he did. I haven’t heard any bird noises since, so I am hoping he has left the chimney.

What I am hoping you can do for me is:

1.inspection of chimney to ensure that no birds are inside or nesting inside and to remove any birds/nests inside the chimney of present. As a reminder my fireplace in the living room is covered up with a wooden facade and vented with a small plastic vent.

2. Installation of cowl and / or bird guard in order to keep (A) future birds under control as well (B) to keep rain out.

So I need a quote for the above works. Depending on the quote for those works, if my budget allows, I might ask for additional works (listed below) to be done as well but you probably wouldn’t be able to advise me until you saw my chimney I guess? See below….

3.Survey of chimney from rooftop, to see if any additional works are required in terms of maintenance to the chimney, clay pot etc. Obviously I don’t use my fireplace, but I’m not sure of the chimney’s general condition. And then to carry out any necessary remedial work such as repointing etc.

I work 7 days a week so it can be a bit hard for me to arrange a time to meet with tradesmen.

During Monday to Friday, I return home by 6pm.
On Saturdays I am available between 1pm and 4pm.
On Sundays I am available anytime before 4pm.

I understand you are fully insured. If you are able to take up this job, I’d be grateful if you could let me have a copy of your business insurance certificate for my records and/or a signed letter confirming that you have business insurance to cover any works.

I would also be grateful if you could let me have a note of your availability and your estimate for the work involved.
