Buxton is a spa town in Derbyshire. Positioned on the edge of the county boundary, with Cheshire towards the west and Staffordshire to the south, Buxton is generally known as “The Gateway to the Peak District National Park.” Originally a municipal borough, Buxton became part of the local government district and borough of High Peak in 1974 within the county of Derbyshire. Being 300 metres above sea level, Buxton is considered England’s highest market town. This altitude ensures Buxton experiences lower temperatures than nearby places, with daytime temperatures approximately two degrees Celsius lower than those in Manchester. Located along the River Wye and overlooked by Axe Edge Moor, Buxton has a rich spa-town heritage. The spring rises at a continuous temperature of 28 degrees Celsius, with water flowing to St. Ann’s Well via a pipe system located opposite the Crescent, close to the town centre. Buxton’s reputation as a spa town grew in the 19th century, cementing its popularity. Today, the geothermal spring’s water is bottled and distributed internationally by Buxton Mineral Water Company. In accordance with the 2011 Census, the town’s population was 22,115, with continued growth since the railway’s arrival in 1863. Buxton also hosts a thriving student population, thanks to the Devonshire Campus of the University of Derby, housed in one of the town’s historic buildings. Housing in Buxton offers diverse architectural styles, with roofs designed to withstand the region’s variable weather. Slate and clay tile roofs frequently feature, offering long-lasting protection and aesthetic charm. Modern homes often incorporate contemporary designs, ideal for today’s lifestyles. Buxton’s altitude and weather conditions, with periodic storms and damp conditions, require regular roof maintenance. Frequent challenges include moss growth from damp conditions. Routine maintenance, focused on preventing leaks and long-term damage, helps protect properties. Residents in Buxton have access to a network of experienced tradespeople. Roofing specialists often hold leading industry certifications. Using trusted specialists ensures lasting solutions.
